Mission & Outreach
The Missions & Outreach efforts of First Church are coordinated by the Missions Committee. Our goals are (1) to effectively utilize gifts from our congregation to provide financial support to organizations that reach out to show Christ's love to those in need, both locally and internationally, and (2) to provide our congregation with opportunities to engage directly in those efforts.
First Church supports organizations and outreach, including volunteer activities where appropriate, in areas such as:
Collaborating with local mission partners to support educational initiatives and camps, to mitigate the impact of homelessness, hunger, and food insecurity, and to advocate on behalf of the marginalized. Our partner agencies include:
The Arc of Philadelphia
The Attic Youth Center
Camp Sojourner Girls’ Leadership Camp
Christ Lutheran Health Ministries
Community College of Philadelphia Scholarships
Episcopal Community Services
GEMMA Services
Habitat
HIAS
Hosts for Hospitals
Supporting international partners including Urban Mosaic, Stand with Iraqi Christians, the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, and the Presbyterian Mission Agency.
Working with community building and environmental efforts including the Urban Tree Connection, the Christian Association at the University of Pennsylvania, the Interfaith Philadelphia, the Covenant Network of Presbyterians, the Presbyterian Historical Society
